Going "junking" is one of my favorite summer pastimes. I love to find furniture for cheap and then make it look all pretty again. The summer of 2010, I found lots of fun furniture:
I'm not sure what this was originally. It had a small groove at the top that looked like a plate rack, so I bought it (for $10) and painted it in what I considered 1940's style kitchen colors. It is now my daughter's play kitchen (much more unique than the plastic ones)
This vanity was well loved, and since my oldest daughter was newly into makeup, I decided to buy it for her ($20). I was going to paint it a solid with an accent of red. I originally was going to make it white and red, but then decided that color combo would look like a peppermint. So we went with black and red, and it became the basis for her whole room.
I went to get my haircut one Saturday and saw this cabinet on the side of the road for $20. I talked the lady into $15 (she wouldn't go lower since she said it was "vintage"). Upon sanding, I found that this beauty had been white, blue, green, and originally black. So I restored her former glory, and then sanded the edges so that you could see all of her transformations over the years. :)
